Doug on Cattle Drive

Doug Adelmann, aka: “Dr. Doug”, “the Old Guy”, “the Good-Looking One”, died unexpectedly at his home in Bozeman on Sunday, April 29th with his wife Lindy at his side.

Born in Minnesota on Oct. 10th, 1945 to Jim and Jean Adelmann; he was raised in the mid-west to eventually move to Lockport Illinois with his family.  His mother passed on when he was 13.

In 1970 He completed Northwestern Medical School, and as a "graduation present" was adopted by his new mom, Phyllis Colonna/Ventura Adelmann.

He completed his orthopedic surgery training at Washington University, St. Louis, where his sons Doug and Adam were born in 1973.

He served in the army at Ft. Bragg, NC as a Major, then moved to Joliet Il in 1975 to start his practice as an Orthopedic Surgeon. Later he moved his family to the 3 Rivers Farm outside of Minooka Il.During this time he and his family “discovered” Montana and bought a condo in Big Sky. This became their favorite vacation spot, and in 1991 he and Lindy finally realized their dream of moving to the “Big Sky” permanently.

Once in Montana he quickly flourished in several “hobbies.” He followed his curiosity fully; from crafting leather, cooking, and horsemanship to running a glider business “Soaring with Eagles” out of the Gallatin Field airport.  Eventually he took up blacksmithing; a craft he nurtured from a garage hobby in Big Sky to a profession he was continuously building upon in Bozeman at the AD Quarter Circle Ranch.  His works are now in several prominent homes, as well as the regional airport in Helena. To “relax” he became an avid motorcyclist; a long-journey rider as well as a skilled restorer.

His last motorcycle trip was with Lindy from Seattle to Bozeman in early April. A meandering memory she cherishes.  Only weeks before that, he and his special girls (grand-daughters Marina and Aliana, and Lindy) spent a magical week together in Disney Land.  He was lovingly called “Dream-Pa”.

Doug is survived by his wife Lindy, sons Doug and Adam, and grand-daughters Marina and Aliana all in Bozeman.  His family in Illinois include Jim and Lynda Adelmann, Sue and Rob Darrin, John and Kay Ventura; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a recent grand-niece.  He also leaves behind all of his “lunch buddies”, friends of Bill W., as well as his favorite horse, a pack of dogs, and even a few cats.

He was big in Life, Love, and Spirit; his passing has left a huge hole!  He will be missed; but never forgotten....................................................................................................................................................
