Welcome

I, Doug Adelmann, am a retired orthopedic surgeon who moved to Big Sky, Montana from Joliet, IL in December of 1991. I have worked with my hands doing surgery, woodworking, making custom saddles and other leather items and restoring/modifying motorcycles.

I started blacksmithing in a one-car garage underneath our Big Sky condo in early 1992. Once a month for 5 years I traveled to Stevensville (south of Missoula ) for 'Hammer - Ins'. Our shop now is approximately 3,000 sq ft of space filled with tools, equipment, stock and forges.

My wife, Lindy, worked as a registered nurse with me in all areas of my practice. Her role on this team is: design input, metal finishing and assistance with installation. She also handles the bookkeeping and ‘bids’.

Our son, Adam, is the father of 2 daughters. He has traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, India and Russia and continues to pursue his artistic talents in metal as well as other media.  His presence in our business has greatly benefited all of us.

Lots of hours in the shop; as well as trips around the country to seminars, workshops, and international conventions have brought valued teachers to our lives.

As individuals, artists and a family we are people of integrity and honor with the ability to think independently, work hard as a team and have fun!

Anvil-Art’s goal is to produce unique metal work in iron, steel, bronze, brass, copper, aluminum and/or other materials. We strive for it to be appreciated for its efficient function and beautiful form. We will “steel” your ideas or work as part of your design team.

You are welcome to visit out shop; but please call ahead to make sure one of us is here.

The photos in this site are a small sample of the work we’ve done…. Welcome and thank you for your interest!
