Anvil Art was created by Doug Adelmann, a retired orthopedic surgeon who moved to Big Sky, Montana from Joliet, IL in December of 1991. He was very adept with his hands, enjoying surgery, woodworking, making custom saddles and other leather items and eventually restoring/modifying motorcycles.

He started blacksmithing in a one-car garage underneath a Big Sky condo in early 1992. Once a month for 5 years he would travel to Stevensville (south of Missoula ) for 'Hammer - Ins'. Now situated in Bozeman our shop now is approximately 3,000 sq ft of space filled with tools, equipment, stock and forges.

Lindy worked as a registered nurse with Doug in all areas of his practice. Aside from being an accomplished nurse, real estate agent, interior designer, vet assistant and volunteer; she continues to contribute through design input, metal finishing and assistance with installation. She is an invaluable resource to this family business!

Adam, is the proud father of 2 daughters. He has traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, India and Russia and continues to pursue his artistic talents in metal as well as other media.  After Doug's death, Adam has taken over most all of the responsibilities related to operating Anvil Art.

Lots of hours in the shop; as well as trips around the country to seminars, workshops, and international conventions have brought valued teachers to our lives.

As individuals, artists and a family we are people of integrity and honor with the ability to think independently, work hard as a team and have fun!

Anvil-Art’s goal is to produce unique metal work in iron, steel, bronze, brass, copper, aluminum and/or other materials. We strive for it to be appreciated for its efficient function and beautiful form. We will “steel” your ideas or work as part of your design team.
